The Kirin or Qilin represents the imminent arrival or passing of a Sage or Illustrious Ruler. A good omen, usually thought to occasion Prosperity and Serenity, it is usually depicted with "fire" running across its "scaly" body, and shown as flaming, leaping, winged, or somehow capable of flight. Indeed the One Who Saves Us From the Monster will often ride off on the wondrous and legendary Kirin.
